The Whiskey Hollow grabs listener attention quickly with its debut EP, X Waters. Madeline Finn and her acoustic guitar make an enticing duo as she sings of her struggles throughout recent years.

“X Waters means incredible amounts to me,” Finn said. “I knew this style of music was the best fit for my voice, these songs were raw and genuine.”

This unrefined emotion certainly presents itself throughout the entire album. With some accompaniment from a harmonica and a little southern feel, Finn’s voice pierces right through them both and soars straight into your chest. The contrasting grit or softness behind her words convinces you to put yourself in her shoes and reflect on the past with her.

“Seasons is the most emotional song for me. I normally close my sets with it because it’s just such an emotionally taxing song to perform,” Finn explains. “It follows my experience through the year 2014 into early 2015. It was a really, really tough time for me and frankly quite scary. I was going through a lot, mentally and emotionally, and wrote the song as sort of a milestone once I came out on the other side.”

This EP has surely served as an excellent outlet for Finn. It took her hardships and turned them into something beautiful that we, as an audience, can relate to and grow from.

“This was going to be the first step in finding myself as a stand alone songwriter and performer,” Finn said.

However, she went on to explain that although she may be standing on the stage alone, she is certainly not on her own. Finn is surrounded by plenty of support and expresses her appreciation for everything those around her do to help.

“It also means a ton because my fans, friends, and family funded it for me by contributing to the Kickstarter. I am forever thankful for that encouragement. Successfully crowd-funding this EP was the exact encouragement I needed to know that it was worth pursuing. X Waters is really only just the beginning.”

It undoubtedly is only just the beginning for this project. The Whiskey Hollow has quickly accumulated much praise and this excitement has helped to inspire Finn to take things to the next level.

“The Whiskey Hollow is going through some major changes currently. I have been working with a new line up consisting of Brendan O’Malley on guitar, Griffin Pereksta on bass, Tom Stankiewicz on drums, and Liz Bullock on vocals. We are working on evolving the sound in a more jazzy, mature direction while still maintaining the honest and raw vibe X Waters has. We plan to be in the studio late fall and releasing another full band EP by February of 2017.”

That’s right— Finn is transforming The Whiskey Hollow from a solo act to a full-fledged band! The combination of her talents with these very skilled musicians will certainly take this already great project to an entirely new level.
